Maddux's First Birthday

This handsome guy would like to announce that as of April 28th He is a ONE YEAR OLD!

I know I can't believe it has been a whole year since M graced us with his presence 

11 days early might I add. 

He did not get the early thing from me. nope, He got that from his daddy ;)

We had a fun family party for his the Saturday before his birthday so more people could come

But of course we wanted this little guy to feel special on his real Birthday 

So Ty and I decided we would take his to the zoo

just the three of us!

He was fasinated by the monkeys..

thats what he is looking at all intently here

He is in a really clingy stage lately but we really like it 

cuz now he is full of snuggles

What mommy and daddy doesn't like a good snuggle from their baby

He was a little nervous about the whole animal thing at first

which totally surprised us

but as time went on he warmed up a little more

I just need to take him a lot this summer I guess

Ok this was the cutest thing I have ever seen

It pulled at my little heart strings

Madduc loved this little monkey and it was right by the glass

The monkety put his little hand on the glass and M

put his hand on the other side

Oh my heavens it was adorable they just stared at each other 

hand on hand through the glass

This was after the monkey took his hand away

M still had his up there

and they stared at each other forever

M loved him

We need a pet monkey :)

M wasn't so sure about sitting on even the fake animals

Again he is in a bit of a scardy cat stage right now

His very favorite animal was the giraffe 

There were so many of them inside so close to us because it was lunch time

He kept pointing at them and smiling

So of course we had to get him a little stuffed animal giraffe for a bday present at the zoo

He loves it now and snuggles it every nap and bedtime

I worried the whole time 

I wanted to make sure he was having a blast on his birthday

I wanted it to be perfect

I wanted him to love his day

Ty had to remind me he was having so much fun and to not worry

I can't help it 

I wanted him to have a perfect day

He did turn the BIG one after all

He was completely pooped after the zoo

This is on our car ride home 

He was out in like 10 minutes

Looks like he did have FUN! 

He is even snuggling his new toy

We decided to give the little man a happy meal for his birthday dinner

Oh man did he love his nuggets and fries

We even gave him a little sprite

It was adorable

He also loves the little action figures that he got

Why is it kids like the cheap McDonalds toys better than the AWESOME toys we get them?

After the zoo we headed down to my parents to hang out for a bit and have some cake

I made another Elmo cake for us all to have on his real birthday too

Mommy and Daddy got him a mini mister potato head, a steering wheel, an Elmo movie, the classic rings toy that is pictured here and of course his giraffe from the zoo!

Elmo Cake Tutorial

I am not a Cake decorator by any means 

but I did think it would be fun to decorate a cake for Little M's first Birthday

I am lucky enough to have a Mother in Law and a Sister in Law that

both decorate beautiful cakes so I did get a few pointers

and borrowed some icing bags and tips from my MIL

Well the little one has been OBSESSED with Elmo lately

so I got onto KSL classified and low and behold there

was the exact cake pan I wanted for only $5

I had my hubby so snatch it up for me 

and it still looked brand new

This is my crazy kitchen as I was rushing to make the cake for his party 

Running late like always

Can you say STRESSED?!

First I had to get the Funfetti cake it is the most fun and 

it is for a fun little one year old

Plus it has pudding mix in it so it was really moist

Make the cake just like it says on the box 

To prepare your pan you spread shortening all over it and flour it so the cake will slide right out when you want it to

 Pour the cake mix into the pan and bake it as instructed on the box

While it was baking it was time to get all the frosting colored and ready

I got Strawberry frosting because then I wouldn't have to use as much 

red food coloring to turn it Elmo red

Plus it is yummy :)

I used the vanilla frosting for the white parts of the eyes and also colored it orange for the nose

I used a tube of precolored black frosting because it is so hard to get it the dark black with food coloring

I got the tube at Michaels

These are the food coloring I used for the frosting

I feel like this kind made especially for cake decorating are

better because they don't leave the gross after taste that the regular food coloring does if you use too much

I already had the red one from when I made Ty a U of U law school cake a while back

and I borrowed the orange from my Mother in law

Here is elmo when he is cooked and not yet decorated

See he just slides right out if you use shortening and flour to prepare your pan

Then the decorating began

First I did the mouth I just put a tip right on the end of the tube of frosting and piped it right in then I smoothed out the mouth with a little spatula 

Next, I did the main red of the face first I just put it all on there covering all of the main face of elmo
using the frosting spatula

Then I took the spatula and lifted the frosting to make him look hairy

Next I put the orange on the nose smoothing it carefully so the orange didn't get any where else on the face

Next it was time for the eyes I just used the plane white frosting and smoothed it around the eyes

Lastly I used the black frosting tube with the tip and make the eyeballs. 

And there he is complete

It was pretty easy and so much fun to do for my little man

and his Elmo themed Birthday party

And it was delicious

Just ask him?

Maddux's First Birthday Party

We decided to do a family Birthday party for little M on April 23rd the Saturday before his Birthday. 

It was over Easter weekend so we had a lot of family in town which made it even more fun for Maddux to have more people who loved him there. 

Thanks to everyone who was able to come

You made his party so special

Maddux has been obsessed with Elmo lately so of course that was the theme of the party.

I found a Elmo cake pan on KSL classified for only $5 so

Ty went and snatched it up for me and Wala

I made a cute Elmo cake for my baby

He loved it 

And it tasted yummy too 

I also made some cute decorations for the party

The tutorials for the banner and the Pom Poms are coming soon 

they were so fun to make and super easy

Maddux kept pointing at them I think he liked them too

Since his Birthday was 5 days before his real birthday we left them up for him all WEEK!

We don't mess around here 

Birthdays are a big deal

Especially the first one :)

Maddux loved having a lot of his cousins there

Him and Gracie are giving each other loves

Isn't that so cute

I love when I can capture moments like this

Gracie is only 9 months older I think they will be great buds

Gracie LOVED the Elmo cake and presents too 

I think she might be having a second Elmo birthday party comin' up now too

He had so much fun opening the presents and did a pretty good job too I only helped him a little

and he got so excited every time he got to see what was under the paper or in the bag

He was so spoiled and got so many fun things

He got fun bath stuff, a cute shark hooded towel, Elmo, play camera, books, stuffed animals, a lot of cute clothes, cars, a popper, mini mister potato head and a steering wheel

Cake time was by far his favorite part of the party 

This is when we are singing to him he was in awe

After we stopped singing he was not shy 

He dug right in

We gave him a huge piece and he pretty much ate ever little piece on his tray

It really was so much fun not only for him but for me and Ty too
